Yeah, sorry, I guess I should have noticed that myself.

Point is that I've been spending more time with a good friend of mine, we have a lot of catching up to do, and I'm having trouble dividing my time.

And that friend can't split his own time?

Sure, that's how I've been able to still work. But I'm down to half the time I used to spend in the shuttle bay, and even less in engineering.

[ His tone goes just a little bit quieter. ]

This guy means a lot to me.

And he can't help out?

[ Unfortunately that's not a good card to play on Carolyn. ]

The lives of the people on this ship mean a lot to me.

Sure he can help... [ York sighs. ] I think he's looking at engineering, actually.

And that means a lot to me too. I just don't know why I'm more useful in shuttle bay than in engineering. Aren't we all on the same team?

Then you can spend time with him there, too.

Yes and no. But we've put in hours to train you on how to maintain, repair, and fly the shuttles, hours that we're not going to get back if you decide to abandon us and spend all your time in engineering looking at monitoring; they're certainly not the only people who repair things around here. We need these shuttles and we need people in the shuttle bay.

[ He's quiet for a moment. He's been working under her for six months now, after all, and he's always hated to let her down. She's a good boss overall, and even though she's so serious she's always reminded him a little bit of Carolina. Maybe in all the wrong ways. ]

I just don't want to pretend that if I stick around, I'm going to be putting in the hours I used to. I didn't have anybody before recently. I used to spend all my spare time in the shuttle bay.

You don't need to put in the hours that you used to.

[ Anakin keeps vanishing, Carolyn has been busy with her kittens and her shoulder, Sulu has hands that shake and is trying to still work in half the departments on the ship...

As long as they put in time, she's happy. There could always be more time put in, but she understands how it goes. ]

[ He lets out a small chuckle. ]

You are tenacious, you know that?

[ There's a quiet, relieved laugh of her own. ]

There are worse things to be.

Yeah, there are.

Well, you win, I'll stick around. Maybe I'll see if my friend wants to volunteer with us too. It's only fair since I volunteer over there.

I appreciate it.

[ And she means that. ]
