Hard work and hard play. Can't have one without the other. That's my philosophy, anyway.

That's good. [ She takes another sip of her vodka, having finished off her plate of food by now. ]

Yeah, 'course it is. What do you like to do, when you're not knocking yourself out working?

[suddenlycaptain]

I'd fly, back home. Here... [ she shrugs slightly ] I guess I don't have much of an answer. Casey's been teaching me some different ways to fight, I'll go get drinks with Haymitch sometimes... that's about it.

I guess there's no joyriding allowed, huh?

Well, now you can add getting drinks with York to your list, [he adds, teasing.]

Unfortunately. [ She really would like to fly, but she also knows that if she went out in one, she may not come back. There's not enough fuel to really get anywhere, but sometimes it's tempting. ]

I guess I can.

You ever play cards, or anything like that?

[suddenlycaptain]

I did back home. We'd have downtime between shipments sometimes, that sort of thing, so cards came out a lot.

[logicunlocked]

It couldn't hurt to take some breaks to do that here, too. Maybe someone got some cards in their locker last jump.

[suddenlycaptain]

Maybe. I don't know who would have, though.

Maybe I'll ask around. If we can find a pack they'd be good for breaks, now and then.

[suddenlycaptain]

There could be something in one of the rec rooms, too.

[ It's nice to hear her getting into the idea and he grins. ]

Hey, yeah, I'll check into that, too. 'M sure I'll find something.

Well if you do, let me know.

[ She's sort of warming up to this "break" idea. ]

[ He takes another good-sized draft of his drink. ]

So what'd you do where you came from? Seems like a lot of the people who've ended up in leadership positions did something similar at home already.

[suddenlycaptain]

[ Oh. She hates this question. Carolyn takes a drink. ]

I worked for a shipping company, flying a merchant vessel, her cargo, and her passengers to different systems.

Something you enjoyed, I hope.

[suddenlycaptain]

[ Slight smile. ] I love flying.

I did catch on to that, yeah.

I loved working out in space. It was, uh...

[ oh yeah, he's been avoiding telling people about exactly what happened to prevent that. ]

It's been a little while since I've had that. I missed it.

It's not the same, here.

[ Of course, she was just the docking pilot on Hunter-Gratzner... but still. ]

Did that change after your eye or before?

[logicunlocked]

It was after.

[ York's pretty easygoing so the mention of whatever happened to end his career merely dims his smile a bit, and he picks up his drink and slams back a larger swallow. He's glad to be able to pass it off as being connected to his eye. That's an easier explanation than the truth. ]

[ Carolyn can understand not wanting to talk about things that've happened, so she doesn't press. She just takes another drink. ]

It's been like a fresh start, for me. I know not everyone looks at it that way, but... Well, I'm glad to be here.
