[so that's a Kirk in the Shuttle Bay again. he's down here enough to make an nuisance of himself to some of the crew but not enough to drive them up the wall completely. in fact, often when he's down here it's because he needs to do something with his hands. stress relief, since he doesn't fuck around as much as he'd like anymore.

he's in the ship's regulation clothing, a tank with the jumpsuit tied around his waist, and he has a grease smear on his bicep. he's also on top of a shuttle, so he straightens from his crouch when he spots Carolyn walking by with a grin.]

Captain.

[ There are multiple definitions of "fuck around". Carolyn sometimes thinks that what Kirk does in the shuttle bay is one of them, but he's always useful as long as no one is getting riled up over his presence and logically she knows it's the fact that she still doesn't sleep as well as she should. Quinlan had mentioned working on machines as a kind of meditation and she's trying to focus on it, to find that inner peace, but it's getting harder and harder lately.

Still, she's not feeling too bad today, even though there's some grease on her face and her hands. That doesn't bother her. Her jumpsuit is on all the way though the top is unzipped, undershirt covering the scar on her torso, and when Kirk says something she looks around, blinks, and then looks up. ]

Do me a favor and don't fall.

[he draws the back of his hand across his forehead and his grin widens. Kirk is an expert at noticing the fatigue and stress in the people around him. it could be because he feels it a lot of the time, but won't acknowledge it in himself for the most part. he's more concerned about the people around him than himself.]

Gimme a break, this is child's play.

And children fall a lot.

[ And James T. Kirk is one hell of a man child. Still, she's not that worried that he'll actually fall. ]

How's she looking?

Touché.

[he sets his hands on his hips and looks down at the shuttle]

Less like she's going to fall apart at a moment's notice.

[then his attention goes back to her, and his gaze narrows just slightly. there's something playful there, flirtatious]

You look tense.

[ That description gets a slight snort out of her. ]

Progress is progress.

[ The new tone misses her for a moment, the (not inaccurate) observation instead making her go on the defensive. ]

There's a lot to be tense about around here.

[he looks at her, a calculating look on his face like he's considering something, for a long moment. then he steps forward, toward the sloped edge of the shuttle and half slides, half hops off of it. he lands with the lightness of a man who is clearly used to jumping from high places (he'll thank rock climbing for that) and turns to face her.

his hands go to his hips.]

You know you really should find a way to release that tension.

[yeah that's totally lewd, that tone]

[ There's a blink as Carolyn tries to match up what he's saying with the tone in his voice, tries to somehow make the two come out as something that she thinks would be applicable to her.

She doesn't do it very well and runs a hand through her hair instead. ]

Are you a doctor now?

My remedies aren't exactly what you'd call doctor's orders.

[Jim that isn't even- what. shut up.]

Well, we'd both recommend a bed but I wouldn't recommend sleeping in it.

[yeah he's leering now]

[ what ]

You must be really hard up if you're trying to get me into bed with you.

[ She's just going to walk away now.

Not that Kirk can't just follow her. ]

[which he does because, well, you know Kirk; once he's fixated it's hard to shake him off.]

I'm not going to turn that into a dirty joke.

Come on, it'll be fun.

[ He's like a dog. No wonder she has cats on the ship. ]

I think I'll pass.

You know I really don't understand this aversion so many people up here have against sex.

[still trotting after her.]

Why don't you poll the network and find out?

[ Still walking. She has no idea where she's going. Crap. ]

Because I'm not interested in their stress level, I'm interested in yours.

[he jogs around some motionless machinery to try and get in front of her.]

[ Carolyn stops, arms folding over her chest. ]

And why's that?

[he kind of bounces to a stop, up on the balls of his feet, gesturing with one hand between them.]

I have a personal interest. [that isn't what it sounds like] You're one of our leaders.

Do you try to have sex with all of the leaders on this ship?

[ ... that'd be kind of hilarious, actually... ]

THAT ISN'T THE POINT, he cocks his head, and it's both flirtatious and earnest.]

Carolyn raises an eyebrow. ]

And this was the best thing you could think of?

Unless you want to start taking time out of your day for meditation?

[he finds that unlikely.]

I'm fine, Kirk.

[Jim has that look about him. the one that says he's not going to back down from this easily.]

Yes you are. [sorry, you made that one easy] How long has it been?

None of your business.

[ Carolyn turns this time, heading for a different part of the shuttle bay. ]

[he laughs lightly and jogs after her]
