[ And yes, yes she has. Heading for the bar now -- she's in the shuttle bay enough that she's just fine with taking a break for alcohol with Haymitch. ]
[He chuckles before he ends the feed. And when she arrives at the bar, he'll be on his third glass of something much stronger than vodka. Even if he never said as much, those two coming back and acting that way got to them.
And as soon as Carolyn enters, he gets right to the point.]
Can't argue with that. [He raises his glass to her and then finishes off Glass #3.
And then in an attempt to make her feel better, he adds, semi-reassuringly:]
They're mutts. I wouldn't pay too much attention to what they say. They just want to get in your head. [This is not the physical war of the Games or even the revolution- this is pure psychological warfare. It's a different kind of arena, but an arena all the same.]
[He obliges her and since he's feeling generous, he'll even explain.]
The Capitol used to genetically alter animals for use in the Games. I always figured they'd turn to experimenting with humans one day. Old victors not worth their salt as mentors, getting put to use elsewhere. Wouldn't surprise me any.
[A beat.] What did they say? [Said like he wasn't listening in to every conversation he could see.]
[He takes a long sip of his drink and shrugs, choosing not to go too much more into detail. Carolyn's one of the few people he'll trust with game-related business besides Kazama and his team. Her and Russia, now that Jack's gone. They've seen it.]
Knew what? [Obviously, she doesn't know what they meant, but context is key.]
You're right. It's something else. [He picks up the comm and finds this conversation.]
The only thing you and that woman have in common aside from being people I can actually be assed to respect is you both have pull on this ship- people follow you. I don't bet, but if I did, if Kirk said anything, they'd probably have said the same to him.
[He rolls his eyes.] Maybe I'm wrong about Kirk. Maybe it's just that you two have something in common with Resnik. Either way, I doubt your hair figures much into it.
And that was sarcasm. [He raises his glass to her and downs it.] Just thinking you might wanna work on figuring it out. Something like that might blindside you if you're not careful.
[He shrugs] You don't need to talk to the other side. They gave you a name. You and Tyke ought to compare notes, see what you've got in common they're picking up on.
voice;
voice;
[Have you guessed that he doesn't like talking about sensitive topics on the network yet? Have you?]

Do you still think it's not an arena?
action;
[ She sits down next to him, sighs and lets her head fall into her hands for a moment. ]
I hate this fucking ship.

[ She has no idea what it is, especially since she's only lifting her head now that he's trying to half reassure her, but oh well. ]
They're something, that's for sure.
action;

[ Those fucking birds. She still has a scar. ]
They knew my name. Said I "knew", that I didn't have to ask. Asked me to tell them if I saw their captain.
action;

The conversation was unlocked. You can look it up.
action;
"Survival of the fittest." [He repeats the words back like it's some sort of mantra.] Seems like we've been saying that for awhile now, doesn't it?
action;
Yeah. [ She's just going to finish that drink. ] Seems like a weird thing to say that I "know".
action;

We have short hair, [ she offers after a moment, dry. ]
