Hey, no shame in that. I'm just kind of surprised, considering how things have been since I joined the crew. Things seem to run pretty smoothly, now, anyway.

It's not necessarily the flight crew that has the problems. This entire ship is Hell and most of the people on it have no idea what they're doing, despite how much I try and teach them. Most don't care enough to listen.

[ Well you've got her going now, York. ]

Oh, yeah. I've seen a few things like that. Got some people thinking they're the cock of the walk, going to storm the bridge or some shit. Almost had me thinking that was a good idea, even, until I started digging into things.

Like you said, people who are all talk and don't know what the hell is going on. Now me, you've probably noticed, I do pay attention to what you're teaching.

[ Yeah she's. not going to let this go. ]

[ He didn't think much about the talk, since it had been idle and had taken place so long ago. But if she was going to take it seriously, he'd lean in a little bit to continue, setting his hand on the table after putting down the bottle of beer. ]

Don't remember their names. It was really early on, right after we arrived. Only one I remember real well is that guy with the bird and the long
dreadlocks. He sticks out.

[ She scowls. ]

His bird is the one who sliced up my cat.

[ He shook his head; he actually really liked that cat, though he was more of a dog person. ]

That guy's trouble. You can probably guess what he said when he found out about my infiltration skills.

[ Luckily Jones is okay, bandages off now and everything, but Carolyn's still not too pleased about it. She hadn't blamed the man but now she might start to. ]

Something about splitting the proceeds fifty-fifty. Which, you know, he's gotten, 'cause I'm not a thief.

The proceeds of what, the ship?

Anything. Stuff I could get out of people's lockers or their rooms.

[ Hold on, she's ordering something stronger and finishing off her beer. ]

[ In that case he didn't feel bad about ordering a stronger drink for himself, though he didn't speed up his pace in drinking his beer. ]

I don't trust him. Never have.

Now you all, in the shuttle bay? I'd trust a lot of you with my life.

If he has a plan to take the bridge, you need to tell Tyke.

[ Her beer done, she takes the vodka that she ordered. Hanging out with Haymitch has given her a taste for it. ]

I don't know anything solid but I can mention it.

[ He received the whiskey he'd ordered but waits to start on it, still finishing up his beer. ]

Yeah. I mean it. You run a good department. There might be a few people who have a screw loose here and there, but they're all still dedicated.

[ Carolyn doesn't say anything at first, just drinking her vodka and going back to her food. She hadn't wanted to lead. Not here and not back home. Still, it's the position she's found herself in, and she wants them all to do the best that they can to keep things running and keep people alive.

Still. She doesn't know that she would trust her. ]

I've been told I'm a hardass, [ she ends up saying instead, shrugging a little. ]

[ Which will seem like an ironic statement considering he'd been preaching the virtues of taking a break to her, but hey. ]

[ He's not the only one who has been. Even Riddick has been telling her to take it easy, which she can't quite work out. ]

[ He grins, and finally picks up his glass of whiskey and cola, tipping it slightly in her direction. ]

Hard work and hard play. Can't have one without the other. That's my philosophy, anyway.
