[ He'd been at the communal dinner and as soon as the words were out of his mouth he was already gathering a plate and scooping up leftovers before anyone had a chance to pack them away somewhere else. This would have to count for him helping on cleanup, tonight. ]

I'll bring your plate to the bar with me, how's that? Kill two birds with one stone.

[ Because from the sound of things, she doesn't have a lot of time to get there. ]

[ She'll be able to hear his smile in his voice when he replies. He sort of thinks that's her way of reminding him this isn't a date or anything. Just two people who work in the same place, grabbing a drink. Which doesn't bother him in the least. ]

Sure, I'll take you however you'd like to come.

[ Dates aren't usually done out where she's been the past several years anyway. ]

[ He finds something to wrap the plate up with and carries it over to the bar, setting up at a table after ordering a couple of drinks. She'll find him sitting there, waiting, when she arrives. ]

Hope you don't mind, I ordered you a beer.

[ For his own part, he's lounging in his chair, sipping at a beer of his own. ]

[ She tends to drink harder stuff when she's drinking with Haymitch, but that's Haymitch. Carolyn sits down next to him, eyeing the food. It looks... pretty damn good, actually, so she starts in on that first. ]

[ He probably would have ordered something harder had he known it was okay, but as this was the first time they'd gotten together, he didn't want to be presumptuous. ]

It's not going to get up and walk away, you know.

[ He's teasing, of course, because he knows she's getting dinner late and he's not real sure she even ate anything for lunch. He doesn't know why he's coming to care so much that she take care of herself. ]

[ It's probably better to stick with beer for now anyway; she hasn't had drinks with him before, after all, and she'd hate to make herself look like an alcoholic in front of the team. ]

An emergency could come up and then we'd have to, [ she points out before taking a sip. ]

Yeah, but. Tell me honestly, now; exactly how many emergencies have come up while you were sitting down to dinner?

[ She snorts, but it's not one particularly full of humor. ]

Here or back home? It's a list either way.

[ He doesn't mind, chuckling just a little. ]

[ Carolyn sighs, tossing back more of that beer than is strictly necessary. ]

Hey, no shame in that. I'm just kind of surprised, considering how things have been since I joined the crew. Things seem to run pretty smoothly, now, anyway.

It's not necessarily the flight crew that has the problems. This entire ship is Hell and most of the people on it have no idea what they're doing, despite how much I try and teach them. Most don't care enough to listen.

Oh, yeah. I've seen a few things like that. Got some people thinking they're the cock of the walk, going to storm the bridge or some shit. Almost had me thinking that was a good idea, even, until I started digging into things.

Like you said, people who are all talk and don't know what the hell is going on. Now me, you've probably noticed, I do pay attention to what you're teaching.

[ Yeah she's. not going to let this go. ]

[ He didn't think much about the talk, since it had been idle and had taken place so long ago. But if she was going to take it seriously, he'd lean in a little bit to continue, setting his hand on the table after putting down the bottle of beer. ]

Don't remember their names. It was really early on, right after we arrived. Only one I remember real well is that guy with the bird and the long
dreadlocks. He sticks out.

[ He shook his head; he actually really liked that cat, though he was more of a dog person. ]

That guy's trouble. You can probably guess what he said when he found out about my infiltration skills.

[ Luckily Jones is okay, bandages off now and everything, but Carolyn's still not too pleased about it. She hadn't blamed the man but now she might start to. ]
